Amid unprecedented economic growth and skyrocketing demands for skilled labor in Sierra County – as residents look forward to the first suborbital launch at the Spaceport -- it continues to deal with the challenges associated with border issues. Local officials and business leaders, however, are taking a leading role to counter this challenge, with many members of the CEO and SAWDB coming from this growing community. CEO members include Councilor Patsy Barnett from Elephant Butte, Mayor of Williamsburg Ford Easterling, Commission Chair Russ Peterson from Truth or Consequences, and Mayor of T or C Lori Montgomery, who has also been represented by Commissioner Jim Rainey.

They have appointed and recertified key members of the SAWDB, including Steve Green from SS Marketing Partnership, Plaza Realty owner Earl Greer, Superintendent of the municipal schools Jim Nesbitt, Barry Ragsdale from CMC Construction and Marie Richter from the NM Veterans Home in T or C. Jessie Anglin from the Tor C Housing Authority also serves on the SAWDB’s Youth Council, along with Bruce Hegwer from the Southwest Regional Education Center.
